In automated orbital welding, flawless pipe preparation and internal root protection are the fundamental requirements for X-ray proof quality.
Why do we use it?
- Perfect zero-gap fit-up: Precise alignment without gaps is required for uniform heat conduction and continuous root penetration, preventing material burn-through.
- Offset-free centering: Accurate clamping of the pipe ends eliminates wall mismatch (hi-lo), ensuring the electrode runs precisely along the joint line.
- Oxygen-free internal purging: The purging gas (Argon) completely displaces oxygen from inside the pipe, eliminating severe oxidation on the root side (known as "coking").
- Controlled backing gas pressure: Precisely adjusted gas flow prevents concave root formation or blow-out of the weld pool, ensuring a mirror-smooth internal weld bead.

The Automated Welding Process
The entire welding cycle runs without human intervention, completely digitally controlled.
How does it work?
- Starts at the push of a button: With a single button press, the entire sequence begins: gas pre-purge, arc ignition, and synchronized wire feeding.
- 4 programmable sectors: The pipe circumference can be divided into 4 independent sectors, allowing completely unique current and speed settings for each welding position (e.g., overhead sections).
- Automatic stop: At the end of the welding pass, the system shuts down safely and automatically with controlled crater filling and gas post-purge.
- Automatic return: At the end of the process, the welding head automatically returns to the home position, making the machine immediately ready for the next weld.
